The relationship between a priest and his congregation is one that is built on trust. The people he tends to must believe that he is someone who will never reveal the secrets that they impart to him. They must believe that he is open and forthcoming with them as well, so as to complete the circle of trust that is formed between them.
However, Darius was not a typical priest.
To tell those that he was helping that he was an immortal would be difficult enough in a society were anyone who is different is often ostracized, or worse. To tell them that he was once a man who delighted in nothing more than bloodshed, rape, and other acts of unspeakable cruelty and violence was completely unthinkable. It would not only destroy the life he had worked so long to build, but could very well cause some of those people he now tried to help to lose faith in everyone around them, and perhaps even become lost in the cracks as they started to believe that there was nowhere for them to turn.
After all, if you couldn’t trust your priest, then whom could you trust?
[ooc: Now as tempting as it might have been to write something about Darius and Hsu 'back in the day', I refrained so as to not piss off my priest too much in the coming weeks. ;) ]
