Darius sighed deeply as he watched Grayson ride away. They had been together for centuries and had depended on each other in ways they could never depend on anyone else. Yet still he could not convince his friend that peace, not war, was the true answer. It did not bode well for his ability to do so with others. Yet Darius knew he must try just the same. While he could never truly wash the blood from his hands, he would spend the rest of his life trying.

Without another glance, he turned his horse and headed towards his future.
