Wesley,

I was quite pleased to hear that you and Ben are in the process of planning a visit to the church when you return from your business in Europe. I thought that I would touch base with you since he said you were the one taking care of the details and see if there was going to be anything that you needed on my end. I realize that it is quite some time before it takes place, but it is often best to get these things coordinated in advance.

Darius,

He told you about it already? I really hadn't thought it was an issue of such concern or immediacy. I suggested the rectory mainly to give you an avenue of escape should it become unbearable for you. Although, truth to tell, it's really not that bad. I thought we could see who was interested in watching. Order some pizzas. Beer, because that's what you should have with pizza. Then just relax and enjoy ourselves for once. Take a break from all the angst. I'm not sure what else it requires in the way of planning...

Darius reads the response, furrows his brow in confusion, and then reads it once again. He really would have thought someone of Wesley's upbringing would be more aware of all the little details that go into planning a ceremony such as this, even if it is only a small affair. Then again, where Methos was involved, this almost made sense. He shook his head slightly, and started to type.

Wesley,

I think he wanted to make sure that I knew in advance so that I could be properly prepared for what is to come, although I highly doubt that it will be as unbearable as you seem to think it will be. I have had to deal with things of this nature before after all.

Do you have any ideas on how many people might be coming and how much we will need in the way of refreshments? A rough estimate would be fine as I simply need to make sure that things will be properly set up to accommodate those that do decide to come and watch.

It was Wesley's turn to frown. It was a movie night, for heaven's sake. Order pizza. Stock up on beers. Make sure Darius had a DVD player. Maybe buy him a big screen Hi Def TV. Why were the two of them making such a big deal? It really was time they caught up with the century.

Darius,

I'm glad to hear you're not resistant or upset about our descending on you like this. It's good of you to humor him. I'm not sure why he's so insistent, but it seems very important to him to introduce you to this phenomena of the twentieth century.

I shouldn't think there would be too many. Michael would likely want to be there. I don't think Kara would be interested. Cordelia's always rather mocking of the entire enterprise. Something about it only being for geeks and dorks. Willow and Faith likely hold the same views. I really can't imagine them wanting to be there, so I wouldn't plan on more than 5 or 6 counting us and you.

Darius looks at the screen for a moment. Wesley has obviously been spending far to much time with his watcher duties and buried in books about demons, as it seemed that he was rather undereducated in other areas. He would have to talk to Methos about getting the boy out a bit more. He was also a bit distressed to learn that so many people seemed against the idea of marriage these days. It was rather sad really.

Wesley,

Of course I am not upset. I am actually quite overjoyed to be able to host this event, and I would have thought that you would be happier about the whole thing, all things considered.

I am sorry to hear that some of your closer friends won't be in attendance given the occasion, as I had hoped for the chance to meet them, but I suppose not everyone enjoys such things. Methos did mention something about having Loki there for him, so I shall take that into account as well.

...The occasion? Wesley might be oblivious, but he wasn't stupid. Why on earth would...he started to type.

Darius,

I understand that it's your first time to host such an event, but it really isn't that big of a deal. I daresay most of my friends have seen such a thing before.

I'm thrilled for the chance to be able to spend some time with you, and if Loki's there as well, all the better. He does tend to liven things up. I wonder if we'll be able to keep him seated for the entire eight hours....

Oh dear lord. Unless Methos wants to add on the other five...I'm not sure I can manage thirteen hours, no matter how well done and how many special effects have been added.

Perhaps we should consider breaking it into a couple of days?

....thirteen hours? First time? Something was definitely not right here.

Wesley,

Actually, while I haven't hosted any recently at St. Julien’s, I have been involved in such an event three times already this year alone. And I must say that it is always a big deal for those involved, and if you do not think so, then perhaps you both might want to reconsider this idea.

As for the time frame, I have not conducted something like this over several days in a number of centuries, and I do not think I want to go back to that practice as it was rather draining on all involved. An hour at the most is generally all that is required. Also, I would like to know about any special effects before it starts if that is at all possible, so as not to be caught unaware.

Centuries? Star Wars had not been around centuries ago. And an hour was definitely not enough time. What did Darius think Wesley was planning?

Darius,

I think it is quite possible that there is some....misunderstanding. Especially if you're speaking of something that was possible centuries ago. I'm fairly certain DVDs were invented in the last 20 years.

And while I am very fond of Star Wars, it really isn't a big deal to hang out and watch the movie for a few hours. Fun, yes. A good way to bond with friends? Indubitably. But I really think it's all right if I'm not bouncing around the house because of it. Nor am I overly offended if Cordelia doesn't want to join us. She really doesn't care for the films.

...What did you think I was planning?

Darius read the e-mail, and then covered his mouth for a moment as he tried to decide the best way to approach this situation. Somehow, Methos had mistaken a night of watching cheesy science fiction movies for a wedding proposal, and Darius had to wonder how much alcohol had been involved with that mistake.

At least there was still time to rectify the problem.

Wesley,

I think perhaps it would be a good idea to talk with Ben and discuss this a bit further with him, then one of you can get back with me and let me know what the arrangements are going to be for your visit.

Wesley remembered the conversation. The rest of it. The bit that came right before the Star Wars. The bit about talking to Darius and ceremonies and...

"Oh dear lord..." He was an idiot.

Darius,

I...think you may be right about that. So sorry for the confusion. We'll...get back to you.
