RP - A game of chess with Kit

Darius had just finished setting up the chessboard, and was quite pleased that Kit was going to be coming over to enjoy a quiet game. It had been some time since he had been able to find someone who enjoyed the game as he did, and who had the time and the inclination to sit down and play. As a matter of fact, he hadn't had the chance to play a game since Duncan had last played with him before the incident with the Watchers that had cost Darius his head.

He hoped that the lack of playing time in the last decade hadn't made him to terribly rusty.

Darius felt the presence, and made his way to the door. He smiled as he opened it and saw Kit standing there. Stepping slightly to the side, he swung the door open a bit wider to allow her to walk past him. "It is good to see you. I have been looking forward to your visit all week."

He laughed softly. "If we knew the answer to that, then we could perhaps find the answers to a great many of the questions we have about who and what we are. Perhaps one day it will all come to light. Can I offer you something to drink? Water, tea, orange juice?"

Darius nods as he leads her back towards his rectory, where he has a pot of tea waiting as is usual for him at this time of day. "I have several varieties, if you happen to have a preference."

Darius pours her a cup of tea, a rather earthy flavored blend, and smiles. "It did. Things have been rather quiet as of late, and have allowed me the chance to catch up on some things that needed to be done around the church."

He smiles, picking up one of the pawns and turning it over in his hands for a moment before setting it back on the board. "Thank you. It was a gift given to me by a dear friend quite some time ago."

"I tend to like too try both ways, just to keep my opponents off guard. However, generally I tend more towards offense."

Darius smiles. "I'm afraid old habits sometimes die hard with me in regard to some things."

He nods. "Indeed it does, and who we once will always color who we have become, in one way or another."

He sips his tea as well and gestures at the table. "Would you prefer white, or black."

He nods and settles down opposite of her behind the white pieces. As it's his move first, he takes another sip of his tea as he decides which piece to move. After a moment, he moves his king's pawn forward two.

Darius considers the move, his mind already working two or three moves ahead of where they currently are, and then shifts the King's bishop diagonal three spaces.

Darius notes that he could take the pawn with his bishop, but he would sacrifice his bishop in the process, and it's simply not worth it. Therefore, he moves the pawn in front of his queen's rook forward two.
