Humanity is filled with such potential for greatness.
Just look at what has already been accomplished just in this century alone. Man has learned how to fly, invented a worldwide network that allows instant communication to anyone in any place on the planet, and traveled to the moon and back again. We have learned to cure diseases that have plagued mankind for millennia, harnessed the power of the atom, and seen the farthest reaches of our solar system. One day soon, I am quite sure that we will go beyond it and learn of new worlds that are just waiting to be discovered.
Yet for all that humanity has accomplished, I can’t help but to wonder how much farther we might have been if things had been different. What might we be doing now if we had learned to work together rather than trying to destroy each other? What things might we have invented or seen if our lives were not disrupted by wars and antagonism? Where would we be if crime and addiction were not so prevalent in our society? How much farther could we go, if we only learned that hate and prejudice accomplish nothing but destruction?
So much potential, and yet while we try so desperately to build a better world for our people, we forget to look to the one place that needs the most work.
Ourselves.
