How is it that you would define a mother?

She is a caregiver. Providing nourishment, comfort, and protection from a world that can often seem harsh and cruel.

She is a guardian. Even the smallest sound in the middle of the night from a child’s room will have her out of her warm bed in an instant to dry tears and to sooth away nightmares

She is a nurse and a miracle worker. Easily curing all manner of childhood hurts, from a fever to a splinter. And turning tears into a smile with nothing more than a simple kiss.

She is a referee and a cheerleader. Always there at her children’s events to make sure that her voice is heard in whatever aspect might be needed at any given time.

She is a taxi driver. Constantly driving her children from one event to another throughout their childhood years.

She is a cook, a maid, and a runner of errands. Constantly on the move to ensure that everyone has their needs well provided for to the best of her ability.

She is a counselor. Trying her best to help her older children through the trials and tribulations associated with being a teenager, despite their belief that they now know more than she does.

She is a consoler. Helping her children through the rough areas of their lives, even once they leave her home and start one of their own.

She is the light in the lives of her children, through the good times, and the bad times.

She is by no means perfect, but she is the embodiment of the kind of person that we should all strive to be throughout our lives.

Self-sacrificing, giving, loving, and trying to always be there for those that may need us the most.

Sounds like my mom. Unfortunately haven't seen her in almost ten years.

Is that unfortunate occurrence because to events, or simply due to the habit that many of us possess of getting out of touch with our families?

She was murdered. Snake shrugs. Try not to miss her so much but that got me thinking.

You have my deepest apologies for bringing up a painful memory. Not your mother mind you, but what happened to her.

Better to remember her then forget totally. Was your mom like that too?

*slightly sad smile* I was actually an orphan, and didn't really have a mother that I can remember. However, I have seen enough of what they do in my church, and in the memories of the people who come to say goodbye, to feel I have a relatively good idea of what many of them mean to those that they care for and who love them.

Fuck, that's aweful. Suppose you do hear alot. You ever been around military boys sure you've heard more about mom then you can stand.

OOC: I would like to thank you for getting Snake chatting. He was having a problem with this topic and didn't want to talk until he saw this post. Now I don't think he will shut up. :)

Father Darius, Lilith said I could see my mom when the time was right, but that it's too soon now.

I see. Did she mention when it would be the right time?

No. She just said not yet. She said it would be too confusing for Mom right now.

*looks at her softly* She is right. One day, when the time is right, you will see your mother again.

Given my inability to discuss my own mother, it was the best that I could do with the topic given. I only hope it does some justice to the subject at hand.

I'm sure most mothers would be only too happy to have been recognised as such.

Much of my 'motherhood' was stolen from lost to me.

*wry smile* And ferrying him to soccer matches was not really an issue either!

*chuckles softly* True, although the sentiment remains the same, I think. And I have no doubt that you did the best that you could, given the circumstances of the time.

I hope so, and perhaps now I can see I did more than I'd believed I had been able to.

*pauses, the continues quietly*

Though how much of it can be attributed to me, and how much was simply how it would have turned out despite me, we'll never know.
