Inheritance
Jul. 20th, 2006 11:00 amThere were times in the depths of the night when Darius would hear distant voices in his sleep. Voices that continued to speak even after he’d opened his eyes, and the vague memories of what he had dreamed should have already been fading. They were the thoughts and memories of people that should have long been forgotten, and yet on occasion they still surfaced in Darius’ mind to remind him of the distant past.
Men and women he had once fought and beheaded that now lived on within his mind, and never let him forget who and what they had once been. Some had faded somewhat over the centuries, but others would never leave him until the day his own head was taken from his body, and he passed the voices on to the immortal that took his quickening.
They were the voices of immortality, of the quickening, and they would never truly be silent.
An inheritance passed down through violence.
