Friends

Friendship is a word that many people use, but it would seem that there are few that truly understand it’s real meaning. To most it is what they call anyone who they know that is not family, but is more than simply a passing acquaintance. They talk about someone as being a ‘good friend’ and yet they very rarely spend any actual time with them.

True friendship is about a shared sense of caring, and a feeling of hope for the success of another’s life and dreams. It is about doing for another person with no expectation of anything being done in return. It is about being able to share thoughts and feelings with them that you would share with no one else, and to be comfortable in doing so. It is about trust, loyalty, faithfulness, and the kind of unconditional love and affection that harbors no ill will towards one another. Friendship is about being there for someone when they need you, through anything and everything.

And perhaps most importantly, real friendship is about time. It is time spent getting to know about each other. Time spend sharing memories and dreams. It’s having someone to talk to about all the stress and frustrations that life sends our way, and being there when they need to do the same.

So no, I do not make friends easily, for there is very little that is easy about having and maintaining a true friend. However, all of those people who are my friends are more than worth the time and effort that is required, and I am happy to call each and every one of them a true friend in every sense of the word.

Hey, I don't know you, but I read this on Theatrical Muse and I just have to say, that's a beautiful description of friendship. Absolutely in tune with Darius (although I think he did give of himself to many people, but there is a difference between mentor and friend) and also such a true reminder for those of us who seek out new friends constantly, without being willing to give the time and effort necessary to create a true relationship.

And I too believe Darius gives much of himself as a mentor as well as a friend, and that eventually the two become interchangable as they were with Duncan.

Too many people don't understand this. There's a huge difference betweeen a friendly acquaintance and a friend.

I think you're wrong. You make friends very easily; it's simply a matter of whether or not you intend to keep them that's the difference. *smile* Anyone would be lucky to consider themself your friend in that true sense of the word. Naturally, I'm one of "them".

Friendships are much more satisfying when the feeling is mutual, but it is possible for it to be one sided as well, just as the same is possible in all matters of the heart.
