on_holy_groundThis particular question caught my interest simply because of the wording. It specifies that you wish to know how I would change my society, rather than simply speaking of society at large. And believe me when I say that there is a vast difference between the two.
I really could care less about society at large, as its ways of viewing the world constantly change from one millennium to the next. Oh there is always prejudice and violence against some group or race or what have you, but the things that people choose to voice their hate and rage against do tend to change more than most people would think. For instance, it wasn't so long ago that people would cry for the deaths of those that practiced the art of witchcraft, and yet now the top selling books in the world have to do with children learning that very art. Or there is the way that views have changed about a woman's role in society, or the color of someone's skin. Yes, there are still prejudices in some cases, but it is far less severe than it was just a century ago. Now the hatred and fear of the day is pointed towards those with different ideas about what is right and what is wrong with regards to sex, and one day that to will change. It is simply the nature of mankind.
My own society has it's own rules and way of viewing things that are often the same as the rest of society as a whole, but that still possesses some differences due to longevity. The one that I would chose to change is from these rules that are particular to my kind. It is the one that states 'There can be only one.' I don't see the need to strike the head from the shoulders of every immortal I meet simply because of some line of drivel that has been fed to us throughout the ages. Yes, there is power in a quickening and I am more than willing to kill to obtain that power. However, there is something to be said for alliances and 'friendships' between our kind, and until someone can point out to me where exactly this rule started I will continue to forge them as I see fit.
Get in my way however, and I will be more than happy to take your head, and it will have nothing to do with the so-called rules.
