OOC ~ Thank You
Dec. 19th, 2006 08:07 amThe pup and mun would like to thank everyone who gave such wonderful responses to us in the Holiday Lurve Meme.
Darius is both amused (The General), and completely flustered (The Priest), by how much people seem to enjoy reading and interacting with him in both incarnations.
And me, well I'm rather blown away by it all. Darius has always been a challenge to play, whether it is as the priest or the general. The fact that so many seem to be able to hear his canon voice makes me think that the quieter patches we've had together have been worth it in the end. He's slower than his TM headmate, simply because each of his responses takes a lot of thought whereas Wes can rattle something off in the space of about a second, but I'm glad to know that the extra time has paid off in his characterization.
I'm also glad to know that people seem to think that The General version of our beloved immortal is at least something like what he might have been like if we had actually seen him in the show. That particular bit of characterization has probably been the most challenging thing as a writer that I've done to this point.
So thank you all, and here's hoping that we can continue to keep up his voice into the future.

Date: 2006-12-19 03:24 pm (UTC)I didn't anon you because I'd say it out loud and in public any day -- I adore Darius and so does Ynez (even if she is in for a huge surprise pretty soon, I think). He's always had such interesting little character bits that I appreciate so much. One of my favorites was the time he and Ynez were eating lunch at the rectory and he saved his favorite food to eat last, because he enjoys it most. I don't know if you even remember that, but I do. For some reason that has always stuck with me, both as a sweet throw-away piece of writing and as a great little character bit that says so much about him.
I also really appreciated the recent prompt where we learned that the priest is more than a little manipulative when he deals with people. I like speculating about the ways in which the two sides of his personality aren't as separate as all that, and this is one of them.
I know the care you take with Darius and his writing, and it shows.

Date: 2006-12-19 05:44 pm (UTC)I do remember that scene and I actually put it in there because that's the way my brother eats and apparently Darius felt the same way. *lol* It's just one of the things I try to incorporate into my babies so that they have that human aspect I suppose, and to flesh them out a bit. I personally have always believed that it's the small, normal things that actually add the most character to a pup and to people in general.
I've realized today exactly what Darius is up to with regards to Ynez, and it kind of scares me. *lol* I think it's something he's going to do with anyone that he was close too when he was the priest. And it does take into account Darius' manipulative nature. I didn't even think about that aspect of him until that prompt, so it was a nice way for me to bring the two aspects of his character together.

Date: 2006-12-19 05:54 pm (UTC)I am officially apprehensive now.
It was such a relief that she wasn't alone with him the first time she met the General. I guess her luck has changed now.
I'm looking forward to writing it!
