“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up;
A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silent, And a time to speak;
A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Long before this was a song, it was a passage from the Bible. It speaks of the way the world turns, and how everything has a place in that world. We may not always like what the world brings to us, but we must trust that it is for the best in the end.
You see, our lives are in a constant state of transition. Marriage, education, career, illness, relocation, children, divorce, retirement, and death, are just a few of the things that bring about inevitable changes in our lives. Some of these things are voluntary, and others are forced upon us by circumstances that are beyond our control. Some things bring us great joy, while others bring sorrow and confusion. All however, are a part of the life that we all must live.
Time is constantly moving forward, and we must move with it whether we wish to or not. We must adapt to the new circumstances that come to us, and find ways to learn and to grow from everything that we experience. Even those things that bring us the most sorrow can help us in our lives if we choose to use the experiences to become stronger.
Time can be gentle, or it can be harsh, but in the end it is only what we make of it that matters.
