Duncan,

We have known each other for a number of years now, and although we do not see eye to eye on many things, I have come to respect you a great deal.

You have shown yourself to be a true and loyal friend, despite our differing opinions on how best to deal with humanity, and I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated the many discussions that we have had on the subject. Your often stubborn insistence that man cannot possibly learn true peace due to his darker instincts is one that I have had a great deal of fun arguing, and I like to think that you feel the same way.

I understand that by our very nature, we are violent creatures, but I like to think that my own life has been proof that we can rise above that part of our heritage. Hate, fear, and vengeance are emotions that we can overcome if we search for the strength within ourselves to do so. I know you understand that, even if you have trouble believing that it is ever possible on a large scale.

However I digress from the intent of this letter, which was to tell you how much I have appreciated having you as a friend, and telling you how proud I am of the changes I have seen in you in our time together. You are one of a kind, Duncan, and I look forward to seeing you continue to change and grow in our future time together.

Your friend,
Darius

I really don't deserve any thanks, old friend. If anyone does, it would be me to you. You've always been the best of us, no matter what changes you go through, and I must admit that I'm the one envious of you.

Thanks, Darius. Now, enough of all of this sappiness. Let's go get a drink.

I would not say I was the best. Perhaps merely the most optimistic.

Tea?

Are those my only choices?

Well, I suppose I might be able to find a bit of chamomile around somewhere, if you prefer.

It's been a while since I've had a chance to really read much at all, so lots of stuff on f-lists hasn't even been seen let alone read. Glad he's still there. Though am looking forward to the 'coming out' of General Darius too! *g*
