Our relationship, despite the fact that I knew you in the flesh for only minutes, has been a complicated one. Your death changed me in ways I could not have foreseen, and I wonder sometimes whether it is truly me, or if it is simply you in another form. Where is it that I end, and you begin? Or do I even exist at all anymore? Strange questions, I know, but no stranger I suppose than writing this letter to a man who has been gone in physical form for more than a millennium.
I look back on what happened now, and I am saddened by what I did. Yet, at the same time I feel a great sense of relief. I can’t help but to think on what might have become of me, if I had never met you. If we had not joined together to become the person that we are now, would I have succeeded in the goals that I had set myself? Would the world have been a different place than it is now? Despite all it’s flaws, I can’t help but think that it might have been worse, had we not met before those gates.
I suppose that I am writing this for two reasons. One, is to say that I am truly sorry for what I did that day. It was something that was inexcusable, and I regret it every moment of every day. The second is to say thank you for what you did for me that day. Without you, I would not be the man that I am today, and there are not enough words to express my eternal gratitude.

I cannot say that I wish that things had been different. However, I can say that you have my deepest apologies. I know that it will never be enough for you, but it is all I have to give.
