The chapel lay in shambles, with chairs broken and overturned throughout the room. Some of the larger windows had shattered as well, leaving colored shards of glass scattered about the stone floor, their edges catching the occasional beam of sunlight that found its way into the darker recesses of the church. A splash of red ran slowly down a stone column, pointing the way to where Darius had fallen.

Losing the priest was hard enough on those who had known him, but the real loss was far greater than just the demise of the man. Darius had fallen to mortals, hunters who had seen him as an abomination, and who had killed him without the presence of another Immortal to catch his quickening. Everything that he had ever experienced, his memories, his life, the very essence of the man himself, had vanished forever in that moment.

The light that Darius had held within his soul was snuffed out, as though it had never even existed. Now, the fragile memories stored in the hearts and minds of those who knew him were all that was left of a man who had tried to change the world one soul at a time. Until eventually, time erased even those memories, leaving nothing behind at all.

This is such an interesting prompt. I like it a lot. Ynez, however, is distraught.

((hugs Ynez)) The prompt allowed for some interesting play I think, although this was one of the few that Darius didn't have to think about.

The thing that's so interesting to me is that the death you've described is exactly what mortal death is, obviously. I wonder what Darius thinks about just being one of the groundlings.

I was just thinking that it would have been funny/interesting/odd if he had come back mortal, and only thought he was immortal.

Surprise!!

I think that he might have preferred it that way, to be honest. To just be a soul like any other, and not one that went on in this world even after final death.

Heh. I'd actually consider it if the whole quickening being suppressed and returning him to the general hadn't happened.

So interesting. I really love Darius a lot.

Just what I need is a muse with another AU version! *lol*

Seriously. He's one of the few fictional character types around that I think I, personally, would be interested in talking to.

There does seem to be some demand for it. ;) Maybe just a little fic at first. You know, like a gateway drug.

And to think I only brought him in as a present to a friend.

Well, I could maybe do a fic or two, in order to tame the masses. ;)

He was the first person Ynez interacted with in TM, so I'll always have a soft spot for him, no matter what.

Whee!!

I know you're busy today. Do you want to start the new thread when you're ready or do you want me to?

Why don't you go ahead and start it and link me here, then I'll get to it as soon as I can and I won't forget, cause I'm a natural blonde. ;)

Here. (http://ynez-castillo.livejournal.com/108768.html) I tried to fill in a few blanks about what's been happening, hope it's okay with you. If you want anything changed, let me know. :)

Hehehe, and just reading what Ynez!mun said - and agree! What an interesting scenario, an immortal coming back as a mortal, especially one like Darius. Either incarnation of him actually. I second her call for AU!! *g* Maybe in IJ or something? ;)

Eek! I don't need more journals over there too!

*is not thinking about it now...*

Hehehe, yes, you do. Especially for a completely AU scenario. I have a journal for a Cassandra there. Want to try playing her without any committments etc, so thought I'd give it a go there.

Not that I'm trying to entice you into doing it or anything!

Or a poll even! *giggling because of the icon!*

I think I can tell you now what the results would be - an overwhelming vote of 'Yes! Do it!' by all.

The general consensus is that if there isn't another Immortal close enough to take the quickening, then it's simply lost. The way I ended up doing it, based on some vibes I got from the show, is that Darius' quickening actually became a part of the church itself, which is why they went back there so much. That sense of him was still there. Just my own interpretation of course. :)

Not another one! Maybe I could consider it...

Not wanting to hijack, but I remember something in an episode where it's said that if there's no immortal nearby (that being of course a rather ambiguous distance) the quickening actually goes 'to earth'. The memories, energy etc is all lost to immortals and goes straight to earth. Can't remember which epi it was, but I do remember that being the explanation given at some point.

I vaguely recall that episode, although I can't recall which it was either. it's been too long since I've watched any of the series.

I've only watched it through the once, and that's a while ago now, so yeah, can't remember which one either. I suspect it was in the early seasons, if not the first. One of the handy little expositional chats with Ritchie.

Probably, although I wonder if it was actually in the ep Darius died in, given what happened.

Must. Watch. Again.

Yeah, I need to rewatch it as well. I agree with you on 2 and 3, but I don't believe Endgame to be canon either, because for me that was just way to ooc for Connor.

That's a good way to look at it actually, given that they are all foundlings and whatnot. Makes a lot of sense.

I've heard bad things too, so I'm leary of watching, and probably wouldn't if Methos wasn't in it.

Not really, considering how much they contradict themselves.

Tell me about it.

Heh, I think that's pretty much what we all do. After all, if the producers can do it, then so can we!
