RotM ~ 1.76.1 ~ Stratego
Oct. 1st, 2007 04:04 pmDarius stared at the plans he had made for the upcoming battle, his eyes missing nothing as he looked at the placement of his troops. The outcome of the battle rode on the decisions that he made at this very moment. How he chose to move his men, what kinds of troops he placed in any particular location, and the numbers he placed there could be the difference between defeat or victory. To make even one wrong move now, could spell disaster before the men had even taken the field.
It was a concept that far to few understood in this age where many believed that only the numbers mattered. Enough men, they thought, could rule any battlefield with little need to worry about the strategy behind it all. However, the Romans understood the concept, and had utilized it well, but there was one thing that they had yet to learn. Spread the army to thin, and all the numbers in the world will not save a city that has too few soldiers left to protect it on the home front.
After all, Darius though as he made his final plans for the attack on Rome, the number one rule of any battle is to always protect the flag.
