1. Darius has a seemingly unending supply of patience. First and foremost, this is what I remember when writing for Darius, because I have very little myself. He has this deep center of calm that allows him to simply listen and react to what is said or done without anger, frustration, or other negative emotions getting in the way. Nothing really seems to ruffle this inner peace that he always seems to have going on. This isn’t to say he doesn’t feel them on occasion, but that he is in control of them to the point that he doesn’t let them dictate what he says or does. He believes that while he can’t dictate the actions or words of others, he can do so for himself and thereby keep things from blowing up due to the vicious cycle that often comes with negative emotions.
2. Darius doesn’t judge others for their actions. For him, this is something that comes from having been in the dark places and having done the malicious acts. He has no right to judge other people for what they are doing when he has done much the same, and indeed much worse, himself. He may not condone someone’s actions or agree with the sentiments that are being said, but that does not mean he can call down judgment upon him or her for it either. Darius doesn’t think that is his place, but instead that he is to simply try and be the voice of reason.
3. Darius has a very philosophical nature. Darius loves to mull questions over in his mind. He likes taking a simple statement and deconstructing its possible meanings and the reasoning behind those meanings. He likes seeing how ideas and values have changed over time, and how they have stayed the same. He enjoys the challenge that comes with trying to find answers to questions that have no real answers. He likes discussing and analyzing different viewpoints. I think this is the aspect of Darius that gives him that sense of wisdom that he seemed to have without having it be really obvious.
4. Darius doesn’t really believe in religion in and of itself. He believes in the ideas that form the basis of the religion, and that it is through there that he can help the most people. He tries to respect the rules that come with that calling, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t sometimes bend them as needed in order to make things right in his own mind. The Church is simply the best place for him at the moment in order to get his message across and to help man try to see the folly of the cycle of violence. He isn’t a priest because of his faith in God, he is a priest because of his faith in man.
5. Darius believes that everyone is capable of redemption. No one is so far gone in his mind that they can’t be reached. He believes this regardless of their past history or the length of time they have been committing whatever acts it is that need to be redeemed. It took extraordinary measures to save him from his own past, but he believes that given enough time it would be possible for anyone to be saved as well. In fact, he would be willing to give his own life in some cases, if he thought it would give someone the peace that they needed.
