Times when the world was not quite so obsessed with the need to be somewhere just that much faster, and memory was still just something that was passed down through stories from one generation to the next. Days when everyone wasn’t always in a rush to do something and time wasn’t considered such a luxury. It’s funny how every day there seems to be something new that ‘saves time’, and yet there still never seems to be enough of it in a day. Its stranger still when you remember that time is, was, and will always be a constant. It doesn’t change, only we do.
Do you remember a time when the world was full of wonder and you still believed in the idea of magic? These days such things are all too often relegated to the realm of childhood, and people forget to look for it in their every day lives. They are far too busy with their technology and their need to always be doing something productive to really stop and look for the everyday miracles. The little things that make our lives worthwhile in a way that all the money in the world will never manage.
Watch a child play a game of ball, and see the look on his or her face when they make that game winning catch. Watch a baby as it discovers its fingers and toes for the very first time. Observe a kitten as it explores the world beyond its mother’s warmth. See a flower open as the light of the sun first touches its petals in the morning. Miracles all, and yet they are all to often things that people have started to take for granted.
People seem to think that somehow those little things will always be here, and that there will always be another opportunity. They keep putting off the game, the baby, the kitten, and the moment in the sun. They forget that time has a way of taking things away when we least expect it. Nothing lasts forever, and one day we will wake up to find that all our miracles are gone.
Enjoy them now, because tomorrow it may just be too late.
