WM - 82.2.B - Adelaide Proctor Quote

We always may be what we might have been." - Adelaide Proctor
When we are young we often dream of the life we will live as adults. There are no limits to the things that we can do. There is nothing that we cannot achieve. There are no possibilities that we cannot strive to accomplish. When we are young we are invincible, and we know in our hearts that we can accomplish anything.
Then we grow up and the world tries to tell us that what we have envisioned for our lives simply isn’t possible. It is too difficult, or we are not talented enough, or there is not enough money, or any number of other reasons that cause us to lose sight of our visions and dreams. When we grow up we are vulnerable, and we think far too much about what others see in us rather than what we see in ourselves.
Yet those dreams are always there. The visions we had of a life that was extraordinary stay with us and never really let go. When we sit in our tiny offices and sigh over how much we hate where we are in their lives, those are the dreams that haunt us. We may not really remember what we once thought we could be, but the heart never really forgets. It holds onto those visions long after the mind has let them fall to the wayside for more ‘practical’ things.
Our mind teaches us what we need to know to survive, but if we truly want to live, then it is our hearts that we must follow.
