TM - 67 - What is so important to you that without it, life would not be worth living? Why?

Duncan looked around the priest’s simple room at the few belongings scattered about, most of which seemed to be books and journals. There was little in the way of comfort, no rugs or cushions to speak of, and the furniture itself was all plain and functional. There was almost nothing at all in the way of material possessions or luxuries, and that started Duncan to wondering about the simple existence that his old friend had been leading for these many years, until finally he broke the silence to ask a question. "Darius, is there anything in your life that is so important, that you wouldn’t want to live without it?"

Darius looked up from the board, and smiled softly. "There are very few things in this world that I couldn’t live without Duncan, as you can most likely see. However there is one thing that I don’t think I could manage without, and that is my faith in mankind. My faith is what gives me the will to do what I do each and every day. It gives me the peace of mind and strength of purpose to help those that come to me in need. If I lost that faith now, then I don’t think I would have the will to continue trying to survive."

Duncan nodded slowly in understanding, then looked at the board as Darius made his move.

"Checkmate."

Sestra looked down, fingers fumbling with her own, keeping distance between them. She nods a little.

"I wish there were a way that you could both stay, as it seems unfair to take away the life that you are making now."

Mumbling she answers, "When has life ever been fair, Darius?" She looks up at him. "Could you... could you pray for her? For my Sestra. She... I can feel her pain."
